News about Kathmandu to Pokhara Bus:

Sep 2, 2015- A transport entrepreneur in Pokhara has launched “super deluxe” buses in order provide better services to passengers.
According to Keshav Prasad Adhikari of Jagadamba Travels, two such vehicles were imported from India’s Ashok Leyland Company at the cost of Rs 35 million and will be operated under the Prithvi Highway Bus Entrepreneurs Committee starting next week.
Adhikari said the buses, which are made sophisticated reducing the number of seats from 35 to 21, are launched targeting domestic as well as foreign tourists. “We assembled the seats in India using materials imported from China and Singapore and each seat cost us Rs 136,000,” he said.

The seats in the buses are sofa-like and their positions can be adjusted using a remote control. Passengers can even sleep on them and ring an attached bell to order tea, coffee, cold drinks and juice from the mini bar set up in driver’s cabin.
Likewise, passengers can also watch movies on a 48-inch television screen in the buses outfitted with air-conditioner.
“We have also prepared a menu of hygienic breakfast for our passengers and it will be changed every day. However, they can have their lunch at a hotel on the way,” Adhikari said. The floor of the buses is covered with carpet. The bus fair is fixed at Rs 2,000 for Nepalis and Rs 2,500 for foreigners. The fair includes all services provided during the journey.
“We are trying to introduce the most sophisticated bus service in Nepal,” he said, adding that the buses will be useful for the ailing and elderly who can’t travel by air.
“Likewise, the buses will be the best alternative to airplanes when flights are cancelled due to bad weather. Passengers can travel by our buses enjoying services of a star hotel and served by crew members who will be wearing uniform similar to that of airhostesses and pilots.” The buses will take six hours to travel from Durbar Marg in Kathmandu to Tourist Bus Park in Pokhara.
Likewise, each bus has a separate luggage box and the luggage will be tagged for the safety.
According to Adhikari, both buses will have green plates. “We are in the process of registering the vehicles with the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation,” he said.

POKHARA, June 19: Debit Tours and Travel Company has imported two commuter buses with toilets to be operated on the Pokhara - Kathmandu route.

Company chief Pradeep Kafle said the buses have been imported from India and will come into operation within two days. "We hardly have toilets along the highway while passengers request drivers to stop the bus to answer the nature's call. Commuters, especially women, face a great difficulty while travelling due to lack of toilets along the highway," he said.

According to him, the buses have 30 seats each. He claimed that such buses are being operated for the first time in the country. The buses will carry both domestic and foreign tourists. One way ticket for travel by the bus would cost Rs 1,000. The buses will operate on alternative basis on the highway.

"It cost us around Rs 700,000 more for the bus. We paid Rs 8 million each for the buses and it has facilities such as AC, Wi-Fi, mobile charger and fans in each seat," he informed.

According to him, the buses come with two 60-liter capacity septic tanks and 80-liter capacity water tank. The toilets have wash basins, mirror and towel stand.

"All commuters, especially women, children and the disabled, will be benefitted from the service," said Ram Kumar Shrestha, driver of the company. After the septic tanks are full, the human wastes would be disposed of at Gunadi along the highway.

The catastrophic 7.8 magnitude earthquake of April 25 and its subsequent aftershocks have hit the tourism sector hard. However, despite the challenges, the bus operators are optimistic that the situation would change for the better.

Butof course, it is notas comfortable as a tourist bus and sometimes safety could be an issuetoo for tourists. For example, they generally drivefaster or less safer than a tourist bus. It is also smaller and has less space. Butit still worth to experience – you will be mostly joined by locals, so expect to listen to local musicand stop by more authentic local places for lunch and this ridein itself will give you a differenttaste of Nepal. I would highly recommend if you are up for adventureand would liketo experience real Nepali way of travelling. D. Howlong is the drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara using Local bus? That’s difficult to answer as the road conditionsand the number of stopoverswill vary. The bus can stop any-whereto allow local passengersto get off.. Also as the road condition is not very smooth, it is slightly longer. You may want allot about 8-10 hours for sure. E. Where is your last stopwhen youreach to Pokhara? It really depends which bus you took. The easiest way is to stop at Prithivi Chok (you may want to ask the driver to let you off on this stop) and get a taxi or another local bus to Pokhara lakeside or wherever is your destination. Lakeside is about 20-minutewalking distance from Prithivi Chokor 150 – 200 Rsby taxi (or 15 Rsby local bus).
5. F. What is the differencebetween Tourist Bus and Local Bus The answer is simple. Tourist bus is generally for tourists so more expensiveand morecomfortable than a local bus. Butto help you decide, we are sharing below our experience: In Tourist Bus: 1. Departure is on time (always around 7AM). Passengersarenot allowed to get off anywherein the middleof the journey. 2. There are stopovers for lunchand breakfast only, in tourist restaurants, so costs are higher than local places. 3. The seat is morecomfortable and has more leg room 4. As a tourist bus, it is mostly (if not all) tourists. 5. The last stop is Pokhara tourist bus station very near Lakeside. 6. Moreexpensivethan a local bus, butfaster and hassle free travel. 7. Wi-Fi and air condition also available in somebuses. In Local Bus 1. Departureand arrivaltime are not certain as it has several stops throughout the journey either to pick up passenger or to let them off. 2. They also have stopovers for food and toilet breaks. 3. Local bus seat is very small and probably not enoughleg room if you are tall. 4. You can taste real local food and can mingle with local people. 5. You will have to get off in a local area called “Prithivi Chok” and have to travel again by bus/taxi or by foot if you wish to get to “Lakeside”. 6. Cheaper than the Tourist Bus, but could take about 1-3 hours longer 7. Don’texpect Wi-Fior air condition. 4. Kathmandu to Pokharaby Private Car This is probably the next easiest way to get to Pokharaif you decide not to fly. You can simply find a car rental company. The cost dependson car modeland capacity. If you are travelling with your family and need to get back Kathmandu justin coupleof days, renting a car might be a good idea. Typically, a drop off from Kathmandu to Pokhara will cost around US$90 to US$120. Notethat companies
6. generally charge a two-way fare as the car would need to driveback to Kathmandu on the same day after drop off. If you are looking for a one-day tour only of Pokharaand return the same day to Kathmandu, this should be the full trip cost. It is also possible to request the car to stay overnight in Pokhara but this will require an overnight surcharge – this is still a cheaper option if you are returningto Kathmandu the followingday instead of hiring a differentcar. If you travelby car to Pokhara, it is much faster than tourist bus; approximately in 5-hour time, you will reach Pokhara. 5. Trainfrom Kathmandu to Pokhara A number of travellers in Nepal usually try to find wayson how to get trainfrom Kathmandu to Pokhara. One thing to note in Nepal is that there is no longer train service anywherein the country based on my knowledge. The capital Kathmandu or any other major city like Pokharahas no railway connection at all. A coupleof yearsago, there was a 59km railway service from Janakpur to Jayanagar, a village near Indian border. This section is currently under construction butis believed to be open again in 2017. Nepal, Indiaand Chinahave serious proposals to also build train link from Lhasa (capital of Tibet) to Nepal and potentially also connect to India. Hopefully in the future, tourist can travel all over Nepal by train and can feel the Switzerland of the Asia.
